Plus size Alexa Chung look for littleredpeacoat
Reader littleredpeacoat asked me for some “geek chick, alexa chung” looks - these are perhaps a little on the femme side of that, but I thought they were fun and wanted to share. I focused on flat shoes, fun textures, and good fabric. I think the bobble sweater would also be great paired with some dark skinny jeans/jeggings.
Autumn Wedding guest
Today is the wedding of some lovely blogger pals of mine. I didn’t have time or money to hunt for a new dress, so I decided to really dress up one I already own. A few easy accessories and I’m good to go.
Gray Dress - Forever 21+, 3X (last spring)
Belt - Nordstrom Rack, XL
Earrings - Charming Charlies (there’s one in the Nordstrom mall on Michigan Ave in Chicago!!)
Shoes - Franco Sarto, 11
Clutch - vintage, thrifted
I’ll be topping it with my leopard trench and heading out the door shortly!

The “effing dyke” hoodie outfit.
So over at Effing Dykes there’s a theory that lezebelles love hoodies. Honestly I do agree with her that there are a lot of dykes that wear hoodies, I’ve just never really been one of them. Well maybe for a second in early college. But mostly I’ve been a v-neck sweater girl when it comes to warm layers, at least once I moved to Chicago. In texas, there isn’t really the weather for wearing layers, which is why I didn’t have a lot of layering style sense when I first moved to the midwest from my warm home state.
But as it gets colder, I find that my femme tendencies take a back burner for a few weeks, as I fully indulge myself in my love of tight blazers, skinny jeans and knee-high boots. I’ll get back into dresses with leggings/tights once winter hits (weird, I know).
So here I am being a bit more butch than usual. It’s a look I REALLY love on others, and can appreciate on myself as well. And while I don’t think that a hoodie is an absolute necessity for a gayelle like myself - I’m certainly rocking it while I’m in the mood.
Jacket - ‘Casablanca’ size 46 - thrifted
Hoodie - forever 21 (two years ago) - Sz L
Cami - St Eve via nordstrom rack - Sz XL
Jeggings - Target - Sz 18 (i love these jeggings)
Socks - H&M
Suede/Leather Boots - Lands End* (from the outlet store) - Sz 11
Crystal Bullet necklace - Etsy
Earrings - walmart (crazy i know - but I was stuck in the suburbs for a wedding and lost one of my earrings and found these - they’re amazing!)
Glasses - SEE
*Lands End does not make this exact riding boot anymore, and I honestly have never before found a boot in a store that has fit my 18” calves - this was a totally amazing score. Seriously Amazing. I can highly recommend their boots and I plan on getting another pair. This pair looks promising, as does this pair. The caveat being that the shaft size does get larger with the shoe size, and note that I do wear a size 11 shoe, so your mileage may vary.
Autumn Black Lace
It’s hard for me to get out of my all-black ensembles sometimes. Especially for going out. I like how tough I feel in my black skinny jeans. Last night was no exception. I also made use of my new metal harness from topshop. I liked the juxtaposition of lace with the metal harness.
Black jeans - Premium Skinny Jeans from Target - Sz 18 (straight)
Denim Jacket - GAP - Size 16
Lace Tank - Forever 21 - Sz 3X
Lace Camisole - St. Eve - Sz 1X
Metal Harness - Topshop - no size
Titanium Quartz Ring - Stone and Honey
Scrunch Boots - Jessica London

The Green Leopard Shirt
This new Forever 21+ shirt is a perfect layering piece for fall. And it just looks so fantastic with my green suede shoes, that I knew I had to pair them together.
Sorry for taking a few weeks off - I recently moved and I’ve been getting settled in!
Shirt - Forever 21+ (new!) 1X
Skirt - Lane Bryant (old) 16
Necklace - Forever 21

Last days of the summer witch
The last few days of summer mean there won’t be many more opportunities to wear such outfits. Since tonight is one of the monthly queer dance parties in Chicago, I just knew I had to get down with some summer witch. Though believe me, I have some great layered ideas for this outfit for the fall.
Next week, I’m going to highlight some great transitional summer-to-fall outfits.

Yesterday the air had that perfect snap to it - and the scent of fall. It overwhelmed me with an unmistakable nostalgia, which made my pupils dilate and sparked me with an urgent need to go for a walk through one of my favorite chicago neighborhoods.
I fully admit that I have two modes of creativity - one that edges on manic and one that is steeped in a slow sadness. I like them both, but they produce wholly opposite results. The slow creativity makes me want to write and sit and contemplate. So here I am, musing about the weather and my process rather than talking about this outfit. But the reality is that the mood shaped my outfit. I wanted layers. I wanted a soft scarf. I wanted muted.
Green Jacket - Calvin Klein, XL
Black Cami - St. Eve, XL
Peach sequin tank - Forever 21+, 2X
Black skinny jeans - Target, 18
Green lace up sandals - Steve Madden
